Ice Cream, Bacon and Silk

Here are a couple custom skirts I just finished. They turned out so cute! Who knew hemp could be so much fun :)

Mmmmm Bacon!

I've had an idea for this skirt for a long time. I actually had them all cut out and forgot :). So here's my pretty hemp silk charmeuse skirt. I low water immersion dyed it a beautiful apple green and aqua color. This fabric is tricky to dye. If you agitate it too much, it gets cloudy and pills. So this was babied and still has its stunning sheen and the drape makes is flow like water!
I'll be doing more of these...I'm thinking in the theme of Elements...

Gardens Gone Wild!

Some updated pics of the wild kingdom I dare call a garden....
Planted tons of heirloom tomatoes this year...they are slowly taking over...Pumpkins (front right) are growing out into the lawn...they are so much more interesting than grass anyway...

Moon and Stars heirloom Watermelon, I'm excited to see what the fruit look like given that the leaves are so speckly.

Dwarf sunflowers I planted to draw bees and butterflies, almost ready to bloom...

Ari with some raspberries and some peppers she picked...

Full pic of the garden...2 raised beds. I'm already planning for at least 4 more next year. The clothesline I built this spring has been wonderful. Morning Glories are slowly growing up the posts....

Gardening is so much fun. I find myself out there several times during the day just looking at the plants. I think I'm going to have many hours of canning tomatoes ahead of me though!

One last pic

Found this beautiful little green tree frog hiding out in my tomato plants, just chillin' in the shade. I'm going to listen for him tonight!

As long as I'm at it...

My yard is so exciting right now. All the things I've planted are growing up! Thought I'd share a few pics of my gardens...
The Lantrip Hacienda
The invisible tree in the front mulched circle is a Yellow Magnolia, should be very beautiful when it gets bigger....

Little coral bells

Lots of ornamental grasses

Our paisley shaped front bed. I'm using strawberries as groundcover and a nice patch of rhubarb growing at the end. Lovingly called the Pie Garden (yum!)

First almost ripe strawberry. Its been a good year for strawberries here in Michigan...

Our beloved Purple Weeping Beech tree

Its companion, the Weeping Birch and its awesome peeling bark...

The Tree Peony that was supposed to be orange...grrr....still very pretty though

Very happy backyard shade garden

Summertime projects

I've been working diligently on a few projects I've been wanting to do for a long time...
New clothesline! Yay took me a few days and some tool borrowing but the posts are set and ready to go. Fresh sunshine dried sheets!! Can't wait!

My ridiculously small garden. I used a frame from one of the kids' sandboxes. Its 4'x4' :). I'm planning on 2 more 4'x 10' raised beds right next to it that run parallel to the clothesline.

Beans!

Peppers!

Peas!

Thoughts of Spring

My apple skirt was just featured at PurplePinkandOrange.
It was chosen for 6 quick picks: Thoughts of Spring...

I tell ya, I'm thinking about spring everyday. Right now its pouring rain and thundering (which I love!) but its still a little cold...those little spring flowers are going to be poking up really soon :)

Crafting a Green World Feature!

Oh my gosh I'm so excited! Becky from the Crafting a Green World blog contacted me last week about doing a feature on my Noonday Textiles line of hand-dyed hemp fabrics. The posting just went up today.

Let me say, I feel so honored! I just love this blog. Crafting a Green World features do-it-yourself projects that incorporate reused, recycled, and natural materials. It has so many great tips and excellent writers. Please check out the Noonday Textiles Feature, tell your friends :)!

One of my favorite things...

...to do is refresh the Etsy homepage. Last night I was doing this when this artist popped up, Marmee Craft

I may have to pick up some prints... I love this one,

And this one is beautiful!
Her work has this awesome folkloric appeal and subjects all show great emotion...
Thought I'd share!
